Please note: A pre-tour briefing is held on the day of your departure at the Wilderness Guides office at 6.45am, or the day prior to departure. Details will be forwarded with your booking confirmation.
We offer a complimentary pick up from Picton accommodations or if self-driving meet us at Wilderness Guides HQ on the waterfront. After an extensive briefing, depart on the 8am water taxi to Ship Cove for your hiking adventure.

Day 1 – Hike, Ship Cove to Furneaux Lodge, 17 kilometres and a total elevation gain of 500 metres.

Visit the memorial to Captain Cook and learn about the historical significance of this place to local Māori before
beginning your first climb. Hike through virgin forest to the Ship Cove platform where the reward is a view towards Motuara Island with Kapiti Island, off the coast of the North Island, visible on a clear day. Descend into School house Bay to enjoy your picnic lunch and then begin a fairly long but moderate climb to the Tawa Saddle. A slow and steady descent towards Endeavour Inlet through beautiful Beech Forest and views across the inlet. Relax with a drink overlooking the Bay at Furneaux Lodge before catching your 3.15pm water taxi transfer to Punga Cove, your accommodation for this evening. Your bikes will be on the 3.15pm transfer for collection.

Day 2 – Bike, Punga Cove to Torea Saddle/Portage Bay or via the Kenepuru road. 24.5 kilometres and a total elevation gain of 900 metres on track, 4-6 hours ride time.

Ascend to the main Queen Charlotte Track. Today you will be riding mostly along the exposed ridgeline with stunning views over both Kenepuru and Queen Charlotte Sounds. Stare in awe at the sunken river valleys of the Marlborough Sounds from the iconic Eatwell’s Lookout. The track is clay based and steep in places so watch for drop offs and rocky areas. There is a lot of undulation with many short steep hill climbs to challenge you. Take a break at Black Rock Shelter before the final hills and then descend to Torea Saddle and down the road to Portage Bay, your destination for today
An alternative option is to take the scenic Kenepuru Road from Punga Cove – Portage Bay. 20 kilometres on gravel and sealed road through farmland and coastal setting. Elevation gains of 500 metres over the ride (2-3 hours).
Day 3 – Torea Bay to Picton/Ngakuta Bay

Your kayak is delivered to Torea Bay this morning (near Portage, 30 minutes’ walk over the road) for your independent kayak around the picturesque bays and coves of Queen Charlotte Sound concluding to Picton Harbour (weather dependent).

There are numerous bays and coves to explore along the way and lunch can be had at a secluded beach of your choice. Be on the look-out for dolphins and little blue penguins as well as New Zealand fur seals on the points you pass.

A wonderful way to finish three days of adventure!
